Whentivity™

Whentivity™ has been created for caregivers and family members to assist those who are unable to keep track of their daily routine. Unlike ordinary calendars and task tools, it uses patent-pending technology that lets you provide your loved one with a customized guide to help them through their day.The Guide can be ever-present for them, requiring no interaction to activate or use. It can run on almost any internet-connected hardware: a 20-year old “obsolete” computer on their kitchen counter, a 10-year old laptop on their nightstand, a phone in their pocket, a smartwatch on their wrist, a tablet mounted on a wall, or, a combination of multiple devices.Whatever the device, any time they look at The Guide, they see a reassuring reminder of what they should be doing now or what’s coming up (or both). It’s never more than a glance away.Setting up Whentivity can take as little as 5 minutes using a calendar setup wizard and then a single click to choose from a pre-configured level of assistance. For even better results, select from a list of situations commonly reported by caregivers and family members, such as “No longer recognizes my name,” “Gets overwhelmed by more than one piece of info at a time,” “Does not recognize night time,” or “Confuses 1’s and 7’s,” just to name a few.The patent-pending magic is how Whentivity uses the information you provide to make The Guide as understandable and useful as possible: filtering information, simplifying words, highlighting important details, using custom fonts, adding images, and much more. The best example is the true story of how and why Whentivity was made: It was created by a programmer with a degree in Cognitive Science from Berkeley to help his elderly mother when she first needed assistance with her daily routine. He set up a large screen for her with an an ordinary calendar program on it, showing her full schedule for the entire day. That simple idea worked far better for her than anyone expected, but only for a short time. As she continued to decline, he realized that she could no longer benefit from an ordinary schedule and reminders. He created Whentivity to generate The Guide that could constantly evolve to remain useful for her: focusing more on the next few upcoming activities and less on the day as a whole. He had to enable The Guide to substitute simpler words and filter out beloved activities as she became too frail to participate. It had to use custom fonts as ordinary fonts became troublesome for her. In her final months, The Guide was still simplifying the information in her calendar to a level she could still understand: a few words, giving her just one instruction or piece of information at a time, such as “DINNER SOON” or “GO TO SLEEP.”The software was created as a labor of love in an effort to make one woman feel less dependent on others. The surprise was that it gave her entire family peace-of-mind every time they saw her using it and how much it meant to her. Now, it’s about to become available to everyone.
